With the debut release of his first full length album, a project 8-years in the making, Godfrey At Large presents, AD, a cinematic experience that journeys from a personal narrative through our collective human experience. Using elements of both soul and psychedelia, AD, is in fact, a Gospel record, incorporating the dynamic struggles between both spirit and flesh, light and dark, heaven and hell. The chaotic, sometimes distorting, nature of the music is a counterbalance to the unique presence of wisdom, beauty, grace and hope that prevails in the midst of it all. This album is titled “AD” in reference to the transformation of Time – Everything New begins at the end of something Old. The transformation that happens to all of us, throughout time, begins Before and ends Thereafter. And so, in this, Godfrey offers a conclusion to the polarizing pull of our humanity: which is, ultimately, Forgiveness.

A mEssage to THE listener:

8 years ago I started working on an album. The title of the album is irrelevant at this point given that it’s changed so many times, but the music was directly inspired by a heartbreak. It’s weird to think about it now, in 7 years I’ve transformed so many times, but at that moment, it was devastating. And hard to imagine how I would ever be “okay” again.

I remember when I was younger, I heard a minister in our church once say, “Mercy is when God spares us from the things that we do deserve, and Grace is when He blesses us with the things that we will never deserve.” In 2014 I rediscovered my faith in God, and shortly thereafter met the woman I would truly fall in love with. We married on June 18th, 2017, on August 18th, 2019, we had our first child, Wesley William Warren, named after our fathers, and on June 16th, 2021, we had our second son, Logan Lovelle Warren.

All by the grace of God.

In the Bible, 8 represents the number of New Beginnings. This album is a journey in self-discovery; mind, body and soul. Touching on topics of identity, humanity, spirituality and Love — but ultimately it is about Transformation, and New Beginnings. The following body of work is titled, A.D. And while the name of the album has a specific meaning to myself, I leave the rest to you. I pray you enjoy!

Godbless.
